Cetina river and village

Cetina river starts in a small village also named Cetina below the Dinara mountain. Here, at the beginning of the 105km long Cetina river you can experience the history of Christianity with the church of Holly Salvation (second half of the 9th century), which is one of the most valuable monuments of Croatian and Western European pre-Romanesque church architecture (early Middle Ages), and its west fasade like high tower is one of the most completely preserved "westwork belfries" from that period in Croatia and this part of Europe. We have to mention the Plate bridge, stone bridge on the river Cetina complex of medieval stone megaliths - stećak which were originally used as tombstones. A unique example of bridging the river, and is located close to many previously mentioned, archaeological sites. The heart of the Dalmatian hinterland hides another beautiful karst formation that hides the exceptional beauty of the underworld. Gentelmans cave (Mileševa cave), is located above the source of the river Cetina, north of main Cetina spring, and is 2480 m long. It consists of several halls and channels. The upper dry floor was occasionally inhabited in prehistoric times. Through the lower cave level flows underground flow of Cetina river, and this part is still intensively researched. The cave is located about 800 m north of the river Cetina spring Glavaš and today is explored in the length of over 2.4 km and is explored, mainly by re-diving of channels. In the cave you can see the signatures of researchers from the cave back in 1775.
The site of Vrela Cetine, the spring of the Cetina River, covers an area of 29.81 ha and was protected in 1971.This site contains a series of karst springs. The three main springs, Veliko vrilo, Vukovića vrilo and Batića vrilo, lie along the edge of the Paško polje or Pag Field, in the foothills of the Dinara mountain range. All the springs were formed at the site of contact of permeable marl in the field and water impermeable limestone of the surrounding plateaus. The springs draw attention with their magnificent clarity and blue-green colour. Veliko vrilo, also called the Glavaš spring, is a submerged speleological structure, which divers have investigated to a depth of 150 m.

Things to see while in Cetina

_____________________

Located between the highest Croatian mountain Dinara, beautiful Lake Peruca, mountain Svilaja and royal historic city of Knin, sunbathed and imbued with history, there are the springs of Cetina river. Surrounded by tranquility of the Dalmatian hinterland which is disrupted only by the occasional passer-by or a local resident. Springs of the river Cetina, which are particularly important and protected as a hydrologic natural monument since 1972, are among the most beautiful karst springs in Croatia. Attracting tourists with its amazing beauty even though they are one of the least-known tourist attractions in Croatia. The three largest sources: Batica vrilo, Vukovic vrilo and Veliko Vrilo (Glavas), who with the other numerous small springs tailor the flow of the 105 km long river Cetina. Veliko Vrilo (Glavas - Milaševo vrelo) with its depth of over 115 m attracts attention with form and color, which is below the surface made of white rock and the explored and unexplored abyss of karst depths.

With its crystal clear and cold water it hides its great depths which are every year visited by divers from around the world. Divers have explored its hidden caves to the depths of around 125meters. Big turquoise eye, before it sends water all the way to the Adriatic see, grabs water from the mountains and sends it through the valley and the Peruča lake all the way to the city of Omiš on the Adriatic coast.
